Student MC

...a fresh approach to student ministry

With a significant amount of evidence and some recent research that points to the ineffectiveness of traditional student ministry, we set out to rediscover how to do student ministry within the framework of Sacred City's philosophy of ministry. What resulted was the development of what we call Student Missional Community.

What is Student MC?

Student MC looks a lot like our other Missional Communities in the sense that we set out to grow in the gospel as we live in community and on mission together. The biggest difference is that this Missional Community is made up of primarily of students. This group is led by our deacons of Student Missional Communities and other key volunteers who are committed to building relationships with the students.

To create healthy rhythms of being in community we gather twice a month to eat, pray, grow in the gospel, and live on mission together. In this time we set out to know one another and be known by others in a way that extend beyond the formal gatherings.

What is the goal of Student MC?

Student Missional Community is just one step in the discipleship process for our students where volunteers partner with parents in the discipleship of their students. The goal of Student MC is to expose students to biblical community and propel them on mission as they grow in the gospel so that they will be ready to join the church body in community and on mission as we make disciples of Jesus Christ. In a sense, it is an onramp to getting in a "adult" Missional Community.

Who is Student MC for?

Student MC is for all students who have advanced beyond SC Kids (10 years and up). There is a significant maturity difference in upper elementary/middle school aged students and high school students so we divide up into age specific groups to foster better conversations.

When and where does Student MC meet?

Student MC meets the 2nd and 4th Sunday of the month at 6pm. On the occasions that there is a 5th Sunday of the month, there will typically be a missional night where students are encouraged to invite their friends along to expose them to their church community. Currently Student MC for middle and high school is hosted at Jim and Deb Demarest's home (5537 North Ridge Court Bettendorf, IA 52722).
